StrataBlock

StrataBlock

StrataBlock reinforced soil wall is a composite system consisting of concrete block units in combination with a mass of soil which is reinforced and stabilised by StrataGrid. StrataBlock wall units have a built-in slope and are self aligning. They are cast with an inter-locking system in the form of an anchor key built into each unit which enables the alignment of blocks. Another key feature offered by StrataBlock units is the build-up of a vertical stone column (via aggregates) which adds additional stability to the wall.

Each block is made of plain cement concrete of M-25 grade giving it a high degree of strength and durability. The concrete used is dry-cast concrete which creates a durable and long-lasting retaining wall system. These units are resistant to cracking and possess high compressive strength and low absorption properties which helps to avoid spalling.

StrataBlock walls are relatively flexible structures, which are dry stacked so that they can tolerate movement and settlement without causing visual distress at the wall face. This holds true even if the blocks move and adjust relative to each other. The dry stacked mortar-less method, which is used in the construction, permits water to readily drain through the wall face. This draining action along with the stone column backing also helps in the prevention of the development of hydrostatic pressure.

Each block weighs approximately 40 kgs. This small size and weight of the StrataBlock unit permits the construction of walls in inaccessible locations with minimal machinery. StrataBlock units can be incorporated in walls having tight curves or corners at site and can satisfy other complex architectural layouts. StrataBlock is a cost effective alternative to comparable steel soil reinforcement or conventional reinforced cement concrete retaining walls

Advantages

Provides 100% soil coverage for geogrid reinforcement

Casting of blocks can start even before finalization of drawings

No requirement of specialized machines for erection because of easy manual handling

Can tolerate high differential settlements

Leads to significant cost and time savings

Walls built are virtually maintenance free

Walls upto 13 meters and higher have been and are being constructed

The shape of the block allows creation of stone column which imparts additional stability to the system
