Reinforced mechanically stabilized wall near Metro station
|Project application||Reinforcement of vertical mechanically stabilized wall using StrataGrid|
|Location||Riyadh, Suadi Arabia|
|Entire Project Value||~ 6 Million USD|
Riyadh Development Authority (RDA)/ ANM is led by Italian construction group Salini Impregilo and includes partners Larsen & Toubro (India), Nesma (Saudi Arabia), Ansaldo STS (Italy), Bombardier (Canada), Idom (Spain) and WorleyParsons (Australia).
The construction of the Riyadh metro project commenced and required the construction of retaining structures as an access towards the metro station. These walls help save land space in busy areas and also enable faster construction.
Modern Environmental Geotechnical Solutions (MEGS) in partnership with Strata Geosystems was able to provide the technical expertise and geosynthetics products required for the construction of the retaining wall. The combined years of experience helped reduce the cost of the project without compromising on any quality. The project involved the construction of a retaining wall as an access to the metro station. StrataGrid 60 (uniaxial flexible geogrid of 60kN strength) was used for the reinforcement of the vertical MSE wall.
- Utilized the local infill saving on quarrying and transportation costs
- Used the jersey barriers that have been made for the road diversion thereby reducing the carbon footprint
- Saved significantly on construction time due to the flexibility of StrataGrid to be wrapped around without the need for the mechanical connection between the grids and the facing
