Strata Provides Single-Source Solution for Complex Grade Change using StrataGrid™ and StrataWeb®

While implementing any civil engineering projects, construction firms are tasked to minimize time and cost. And when a project requires multiple grade changes, the details can easily become complicated. Hence getting the right solution is very important to complete the construction on time. K. J. Beamish Construction Co. was tasked with reconstructing a section of Bathurst Street for the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario, Canada. This vital road to the city needed widening to allow free flowing traffic through a previously bottlenecked area.
Two mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) slopes with various facing elements needed to be installed, with one slope requiring installation over the top of a large culvert. Due to the complicated geometry of the area, the angle of inclination required a transition between the two slopes from 60 degrees to 45 degrees.
Strata’s geotechnical experts suggested Strata's reinforced slope system that utilized both StrataGrid™ and StrataWeb®. The design flexibility enabled the project designers to seamlessly vary the batter of each slope and integrate the different facing elements. StrataGrid™ 200(52.5kN/m), 350 (73kN/m), and 500 (93.4KN/m) were used, as well as approximately 50,000 Sq ft (~4645 Sqm) of StrataWeb® 356 8" (200 mm) Geocell Fascia Wall Panels. Using StrataGrid™ as the primary reinforcement for both the StrataWeb®-faced slope and the wrapped-faced slope, allowed for on-site soils to be utilized. The Strata Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil System (GRSS) added superior stabilization as well as cost savings to the project.
